Romans 5:6-11 (NIV)
6. You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.
7. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die.
8. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
9. Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him!
10. For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!
11. Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

How precious the gift of salvation is! and how great is the God who gives it so freely. "for a good man someone might possibly dare to die." in movies, we always see this happening. someone dying for another person. a cop taking his bullet for his partner, a father taking one for his son. all of these people bit the bullet because they felt like the person they were saving was worthy of life, or because they loved them. never is it seen that a man takes a bullet for his enemy. the cop never says to the crook, why dont you go free, because i will take your place on death row or your life sentence. it is unheard of. but this is what Jesus did for the ungodly, for the enemy, for those who didnt love him. in "armageddon," bruce willis sacrifices his life for the world. i dont know what his character, harry stamper, thought about humankind, but he must have thought pretty highly of them to take his own life. well, he also wanted to save the life of his daughter...so his motivation was significantly tied to her. but anyway, he thought that his daughter and the world were worth saving. Jesus knew the brutal truth. every single one of us are filthy sinners, and none of us are worth saving. but he did it anyway. none loved him, but he loved first. i guess for a xian, the story of grace is heard often. but it is quite a moving one, and unfathomably touching to me with every listen, with every reading.
