The Final Word by Michael Card (from the cd "The Final Word")
v1. you and me we use so very many clumsy words
the noise of what we often say is not worth being heard
when the Father's wisdom wanted to communicate His love
He spoke it in one final perfect Word

chorus. He spoke the incarnation and then so was born the Son
His final word was Jesus, He needed no other one
spoke flesh and blood so He could bleed and make a way divine
and so was born a baby who would die to make it mine

v2. and so the Father's fondest thought took on flesh and bone
He spoke the living luminous word, at once His will was done
and so the transformation that in man had been unheard
took place in God the Father as he spoke that final Word

chorus

bridge. and so the light became alive and manna became Man
eternity stepped into time so we could understand

chorus

it is ironic that this song is being written about on this page. this page is full of words, but as the song says, none were more precious than the one spoken by God the Father. my favorite line in the song is in the bridge, "eternity stepped into time so we could understand" i think this is a beautiful picture of the union of the omnipotent, eternal God and fragile, temporary man. what great imagery. in it, Mr. Card sums up the magnitude of God and what He did. Eternity. Time. He stepped into ours, paved the way for our salvation and bridged our severed relationship through Jesus Christ. Though needless on His part, He did it anyway because of His love. Amazing. How marvelous. All my lame words, even on this page, cannot express what God did with just one, with the incarnation of God the Son. so i will stop with that.

i was watching mtv last night, and there was a concert thing on of the rapper dmx. at the conclusion of the concert, dmx offered up a prayer, much like the one that any typical xian would. among the many things he prayed for, he thanked the Lord Jesus for his talents, he asked for forgivness for his imperfections, and to help him continue to be a good guide for the younger generations. he thanked God for being "his crutch" when he was weak, and asked that God would continue to do so. now, i am assuming from this prayer that dmx thinks himself to be a saved child of God. i dont know the guy, i dont know his heart, but from his prayer, it seems that way. but if he is a xian, his prayer did seem a bit self centered. he asked God to be his crutch when he was weak. ok. but how about other times? is dmx strong enough to make it on his own, without God? is dmx's talent, inner strength, whatever, enough to get him through? i guess so. ok. the reason i talk about this is because, at times, arent i like dmx? dont i depend on myself and forget about God until the times are rough? i must say yes, because those are the times when my prayers seem the most earnest, the most intense. i so easily forget the life that He provides for me each and every day, that He puts the color into my world, that he creates the world He puts the color into. well, what can i say. be more mindful, and thankful, i guess. appreciate what God has done, and does, and will do.
