shout out to my small group. hey guys. devotionals are cool. let's do them. get up.
continuing on the theme of God shining through and despite our weakness...here's a couple songs by Rich Mullins. the first describes beautifully the love of God, and the second is equally straighforward and wonderful in its benediction. i hope that they will be comforting and encouraging. why try to say something when someone else has said it better, right? by the way, the biblical references were researched by www.kidbrothers.net, Rich Mullins' homepage. though rich has passed on, the ones maintaining this website did not want his music to be forgotten.

The Love of God by Rich Mullins (from the cd "Never Picture Perfect")
Romans 8:18-39, Ephesians 3:14-21

there's a wideness in God's mercy
i cannot find in my own
and He keeps His fire burning
to melt this heart of stone
keeps me aching with a yearning
keeps me glad to have been caught
in the reckless raging fury
that they call the love of God

now i've seen no band of angels
but i've heard the soldier's songs
love hangs over them like a banner
love within them leads them on
to the battle on the journey
and it's never gonna stop
ever widening their mercies
and the fury of His love

oh the love of God
and oh, the love of God
the love of God

joy and sorrow are this ocean
and in their every ebb and flow
now the Lord a door has opened
that all Hell could never close
here i'm tested and made worthy
tossed about but lifted up
in the reckless raging fury
that they call the love of God

Peace (A Communion Blessing From St. Joseph's Square) by Rich Mullins and Beaker (from the cd "A Liturgy, A Legacy, and A Ragamuffin Band")
Matthew 26:26-30, John 6:32-58, Colossians 3:12-17

v1. though we're strangers, still i love you
i love you more than your mask
and you know you have to trust this to be true
and i know that's much to ask
but lay down your fears, come and join this feast
He has called us here, you and me

chorus. and may peace rain down from Heaven
like little pieces of the sky
little keepers of the promise
falling on these souls this drought has dried
in His blood and in His body
in His bread and in His wine
peace to you, peace of Christ to you

v2. and though i still love you, still we're strangers
prisoners in these lonely hearts
and though our blindness separates us
still His light shines in the dark
and his outstretched arms are still strong enough to reach
behind these prison bars to set us free

chorus
chorus
peace of Christ to you
