An Introduction to Jeff Buckley:  Why you should Care

You may not know this, but you are completely useless if you have never heard of Jeff Buckley.  In fact, I don't even want to talk to you if you have never heard his best album, "Grace".  The very fact that his music can not be heard on the radio makes me sick.  Find him.  Now!  I'll pause and let you search for one of his CD's.  Here is the link to Amazon.com in case you don't know where to look.

Ok.  Now that you are back.  Here is what you need to fully grasp the wonder that is Jeff Buckley.  First, a great taste in music is much required.  No teeny boppers, no "Papa Roach" supporters, or "Phish" supporters allowed.  If your music lust isn't developed enough, you will not fully grasp the beauty that is Jeff Buckley.  Case in point:  ME.  When I was in high school I bought Jeff's "Mystery White Boy" (which is a live album...NOTE:  Don't buy any of his live albums until you listen to his two studio albums).  I really didn't like it.  I picked it up two years later, when I had expanded my music loves, and I hear it differently now.  It makes more sense.  All of his music sounds better, every day that I age.  I grow with the music almost.

The second thing you will need is a Jeff Buckley album.  I recomend getting his albums in this order:

1) Grace
2) Sketches for my Sweetheart The Drunk
3)Mystery White Boy (Live album)
4)Songs to No one (which is an early studio album he did with this guy named Gary Lucas).
5) Live at Sin-e (which is saved for last because it appeals more to hard core Jeff fans because of what is in it and how hard it rocks!)

After you have fully grasped the beauty of his voice and his talent, you will require a steady supply of batteries for your walkman, or whatever.  Seeing as how you will be listening to all of the above over and over.

My Favorite song is "
Lover You should have come over", which is on "Grace".  That is a song that just makes me ache with happiness and depression all at the same time.

If I haven't mentioned before, Jeff Buckley is in fact no longer with us.  I'll pause for a moment of silence.  Ergo:  No more albums.  So, I suggest you try to form the illusion of new albums by buying these CDs over a long period of time.  It eases the pain a great deal.

As always, please
report dead links and enjoy your new (more healthy) grasp on music reality.  Looking back, aren't your old point of views pretty lame!  Ah, growth.  Breath it in.
