Pumping Girl
Nina sings Since I fell for you

how I envy jazz
fingers breathing sudden scat
all that requires no words
lightning a message flashing on a cell phone
blue intervals til your eyes close
our heat the meaning sucked out of summer
your voice the raindown
I must wait til it comes
words communications last resort
the dodo birds talked too much
me your voyeur at the gas pump
rubbing up against your skirt
helping you screw the cap on
following you to the side road
where you get out of the car
and come straight towards me
I roll the window down
melodies and sax sinews
Billie singin doooooooont
nina holding those first notes
youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
N-N-N-N------
tears released in the pillow
bending to do your wifely duty,
me releasing mine
outside your window,
both of us not yet home.
