Let us conjure up a poem

just you and I
beginning like this like all
I have to do is
give you a single word and all you
have to do is hold it
the way you held your breath the first time
you saw the Pisgah Falls
remember that: then remember
this: the word is Pisgah
and before you can shape the sound
before the quickening echo of your pulse
the falls will be there
and the poem that gave them life
before we ever had poems of our own
or names to give them
seeing only through our skin
