The Renovation of 101 Pound Road Warrandyte When visiting the village of Portmerion in Wales, we were taken with its unique architecture, atmosphere and colours. Should we ever decide to move house, we were determined it should be to a locality and style that would be reminiscent of Portmerion . Proximity to water was also important. When the opportunity arose in 2000 to purchase a property on the Yarra River at Pound Bend, an added attraction of the house was enough similarity in construction to one of our favourite buildings in Portmerion, the Toll House (shown at right), to warrant a renovation broadly in that style. The property is now our home and 2001 has been an interesting year of renovation! What the images can't show is the village green atmosphere of the river environs, the wild birdlife or the tranquil feeling of being far from suburbia. |
Quite a deal of cutting-back and some tree removal was necessary, for reasons of
structural and fire safety. We have now re-planted more than was removed and the
garden is an eclectic mix of natives and exotics. The postman remarked he had
been delivering letters at this address for a number of years, but had never noticed
the house before. |
All the paint colours were computer-matched from samples taken at Portmerion (flaky
bits only! - no buildings were harmed during this renovation!) |
