Southwest Airlines as a Social Democracy!
A friend of mine who lives in my suite here in the dorms at
Irvine with me decided he would argue with me on which airlines
we choose to fly. He excitedly stated that he flies American.
This prompted me to ask why not Southwest? He then explained
to me that he does not like the cattle round up. I proceeded
by saying bullshit. To which he responded hey for a few extra
bucks, I get my assigned seat.
I whole-heartedly disagree with this statement. Southwest Airlines
has no assigned seating which first makes the tickets cheaper.
Second with those cheaper tickets, this allows for people of
different socio-economic-statuses to fly aboard SWA. Futhermore
the lack of assigned seating with the combination of cheap tickets
allows for people of different backgrounds to meet.
Another argument my suitemate made was about feet, and legroom.
It seems American Airlines has taken out a few rows to make extra
space. With Southwest's lack of a first class area, which demands
extra space on an aircraft, it creates more room for all the
seats. The extra space, which would have been taken up by a few
rows of first class, can now be shared with everyone on the airplane.
