Ok, since I made an update to the site I decided to actually post about it on this page, seeing as it's the news & updates page o_O Yes, it is rather a trivial update-- I revamped my Materialistic Blah page, as I made a trip to the bookstore recently and realized how much I've been craving the same few books for awhile now, and that reminded me of the WACOM tablet I've also been itching to get. Being a broke college student, it's somewhat not possible to buy them all so right now I will at most buy one or two books if I find them cheap used off the internet or something, but I'll have to mostly settle for just admiring from afar until the time comes that I get my hands on the tablet... ahem, I mean the various items in my wishlist ^_^ Oh and to throw in some other news, I guess since this is a personal site, I got into UCLA and so I start this Fall! :) Facebook knows all about it, :( sorry I've been keeping you a bit out of the loop Pixelfiction :'( but I am reminded to post my facebook link on the site, kinda makes sense. In any case, love you pixelfiction, don't think I'll ever forget yoouuu ♥ ♥

I've decided to update this page, though visitors are probably about non-existent to the site even worse than ever since I haven't really done updates in.. forever, obviously :/ I've been really busy lately.. there are already so many things I feel I am not getting to do that I'd like to! .. and Halloween's coming up soon.. I always am looking forward to the holiday and yet usually will end up doing nothing, it's pretty sad. But yeah maybe I'll get to do something this time :) Anyway just updated for the heck of it.. I first came on to edit the main page since there were a few broken links for exchanges so I just replaced them with a banner I just found, supporting "cruelty-free" stuff.. it's really cute. Later :)

Today I've decided to make a post with a crazy amount of photos attached.. at least.. crazy compared to the past posts (scroll down, you'll see what I mean). If you're like me you take several pictures of the same subject to try to get it "right". keyword = "try". I'm teaching myself to not obsess too much. Plus it can be fun to just take a more spontaneous picture, just a single click and you're done. You probably didn't understand that.. oh well. Anyway to the right we have a wonderfully delicious dish of tamale pie, ..yellow? rice, and veggie mixture. I made the pie (for the most part at least), my mom made the rice and.. well I usually just steam/sauté veggies separately for me to add to the main dish so that's what I did here. One thing that I've been doing differently recently is add more flavor to them, using more spices and such. The veggies on this plate consist of mixed bell pepper strips, green beans, and peas, and the spices/seasonings used I believe were curry powder, turmeric, pepper, salt, paprika.. minced garlic.. and oregano. I may be confusing some of the spices with another dish.. I just add whatever/as much I feel might taste good together. The tamale pie was made by following loose variations of multiple recipes, such as those from the books The Garden of Vegan, The Compassionate Cook, and The New Farm Vegetarian Cookbook. Made primarily with black beans, semi-mashed kidney beans, diced canned tomatoes, mixed bell pepper strips, onions, cornmeal/water/flour, oregano, chili powder, cumin, and salt & pepper. The rice (not following a "recipe") was made with turmeric and onions.. and garlic I think.

Whoo! That was a pretty freakish long post for being mostly about a basic tamale pie recipe.. Okay. One more recipe description (about the cookies in the pictures below)...

I made these using the Multigrain Cutouts recipe from the Betty Crocker website because they seem pretty healthy for cookies, use wheat germ (have been trying to think of ways to use it), and don't even call for eggs :) The cookie cutters I used were reindeers and ghosts. The thing(s) I changed that might have majorly affected the recipe was use plain ol' canola oil instead of shortening.. since I didn't have shortening. I also used a type of corn flour instead of meal. Oh, and as you can see I didn't make them with the frosting. They turned out quite flavorsome (in a good way), for being "healthier" cookies. The negative is they turned out just about rock hard.. okay not quite, but almost. I did leave them in the oven rather long but that's because they hadn't browned much and I've often had bad experiences with things turning out undercooked.. So overall relatively good.

As you would probably guess if you've visited the "images" section of the site, Phoebe, my cat, is a common subject of my messing with picture-taking. So not surprisingly here she is again.. above, left. You'll also find her in a few other poses - screenshot below.

And finally, there is this thing with friendship bracelets that I've gotten back into after three or four years. I first discovered the book, appropriately titled Friendship Bracelets (author Laura Torres), in a bookstore at the mall back in early 8th grade or so and since then have made about 11 bracelets (two or three just recently). I never got that actual book; I just now ordered it off eBay because I gained interest in making the bracelets again, as previously stated. It's a really fun book to own, as are most of the Klutz books from what I've seen of them (in my opinion). For instance, two others I would want to get are Hemp Bracelets (by Anne Akers Johnson) and The Body Book also by Johnson. I had found some adorable little hemp jewelry kits ($1.00 each!) at Big Lots awhile ago which got me interested in making hemp jewelry. Anyway you can see the friendship bracelets I've made so far in the photo on the left.. I just now realized I didn't get a photo of the hemp jewelry. Well if anyone cares enough to see them (right...) contact me and I'll be sure to put 'em up!

hmmm I'm bored to say the least right now, as usual.. anyway I just realized a lot of my time is spent reading veg food blogs. So that put an idea in my head: severe boredom + working webcam + just made a dish of something = yes!! the perfect time to go ahead and make a food blog post! is it an amazing dish? no.. but is it still food that I've found yummy (as I do most vegan food)? yep. So that image on the left there is the result of all this intricate thinking. the funny thing is this is the first time I've knowingly tried collard greens, both eating and cooking. didn't really cook it much out of laziness but also wondering if it would wilt more after taking it off the heat kinda like spinach does... and of course it didn't. but it still turned out unexpectingly tasty. I fried it in olive oil with some potato cubes my mom had prepared earlier along with a bit of pre-minced garlic and sea salt (can you tell i'm the laziest cook ever?). I definitely would make something like this again. still kinda shocked i didn't try collard greens earlier in life...

p.s. after you're done reading my sad excuse for a food blog post you might want to go check out some real food yumminess. i would personally recommend these to name a few (in no particular order):

vegan lunch box
vive le vegan!
melissa's blog
teenager's vegan kitchen
squirrel's vegan kitchen

So I was amazingly bored and decided to work on something related to the site.. I really didn't want to but something compelled me to.. this happens often with me for some reason. anyway it was two things - putting up a new webcam image and adding a new page (well mini-page) to the about me section (we can always add more to that section can't we?). this new page is pretty much a little thing that automatically updates itself and shows the top seven or so songs I've been listening to the most. I know what you're thinking. you posted an update for this? even I'm disappointed in myself. let's just say i have issues and leave it at that.. :)
as for something you might be a bit more interested in, you can get your own song chart thingy here. In case you haven't been to this place yet/signed up there, it's a pretty neat tool in my opinion if you often listen to music or it's in some way a positive part of your life. one cool thing it does is help you find music that you might like based on the sort of music you've been listening to in a song program like Windows Media Player. here's my user page for an example (no need to make fun of my music tastes!) a basic account there is free.. unless they changed something since I signed up as a member.

Ummm oh yes. Happy Easter to all that are in any way celebrating it! check out this prettyful easter page for some easter-iffic ideas. (... did I just write that? yes.. I'll be getting off the computer now)

I know, I know, it's been awhile since updating the site. I guess I just sort of got lazy. I doubt anyone actually cares though so I don't really feel all that bad :P in a related note I also know pixelfiction probably is getting the fewest visitors it ever has at the moment but to anyone who does happen to stop by and see this, (and though I don't really consider myself much of an animal activist) consider adding your voice to the protest against the Seal Hunt in Canada in an incredibly quick and easy way. The hunt apparently has just started within the last day or so. There is more information on the pages with the petitions/action pages, but pretty much there's a lot of protest going on against the hunt because it's just full of unbelievable and ridiculous cruelty in more ways than one. So please sign! it really takes barely any time.

the links, as you can probably see, can be found at the bottom of this post, and will also be added to the quick & easy ways to help page which can be found in the Visitor section.
thanks a lot nice people :)

Not much updates on the site. Just modified the bookmark iframe a bit and updated the food journal after forever. I guess I'll get to the calendar and 'current webcam image' when I feel like it.. which I don't know when will be, honestly :S As you might have guessed this site's not to be taken all that seriously. well.. that's all for now. Happy December =)
