Current Moon Phase
I found from a book that a good way on remembering if the moon is waxing (becoming more, transitioning to a full moon) or waning (becoming less, transitioning to a new moon) is to think of it that a waxing moon is more similar in the shape to the letter 'D', which the word 'double' begins with (and double can seem to imply more), while a waning moon is more similar in shape to the letter 'C'. A less vague way to remember is thinking of the acronym DOC, with a waxing moon being 'D', a full moon being 'O', and a waning moon being 'C', because this (DOC) is the correct order of those three basic moon phases.
