Breeding Information
Basics
Vanities are flock animals. In the wild, one male may have several female mates. Captured Vanities, as a result, are usually loner males. During breeding seasons, they court females if they are available, and while they may breed with multiple females, each female may only have one mating. She may lay one or two eggs.

Captive breeding can have a twist not available in the wild--test tube breeding. Genetic material from two males or two females can be combined in a laboratory to produce a baby Vanity with parents of the same sex.

How to Breed
Vanities will not mate unless a feather is offered by the male to the female. You will need to provide a feather, which can be obtained through events in Adoptables General. You may use this feather to ensure a mating between to Vanities you own, a Vanity you own and another owner's Vanities, or between two Vanities you do not own, as long as you have permission to breed those Vanities. For same-sex breeding, this feather is just a token you must obtain.

Feather Types

A Yellow Feather is necessary for breeding opposite sex Vanities. All opposite sex breedings must include a Yellow Feather, regardless of what other feathers are included in the breeding. The Yellow Feather guarantees that an egg will be laid. There will be a 1 in 4 chance that the chick will be female. S-Genes and mutations will pass on according to my crazy secret formula.

A Green Feather is necessary for breeding same sex Vanities. All same sex breedings must include a Yellow Feather, regardless of what other feathers are included in the breeding. The Green Feather guarantees that an egg will be laid. There will be a 1 in 4 chance that the chick will be female. S-Genes and mutations will pass on according to my crazy secret formula.

A Blue Feather guarantees a pair of twins. Twins may be fraternal or identical. Identical will be more common. A Yellow or Green feather is still required. It may be combined with any other feather(s).

A Red Feather guarantees a female chick. If combined with a Blue Feather, a Red Feather only guarantees that one of the chicks will be femalethe other chick may be either male or female. Using two Red Feathers with a twin breeding guarantees two females. A Yellow or Green feather is still required. It may be combined with any other feather(s).

A White Feather guarantees a Paint chick, regardless of the parents S-Genes. A Yellow or Green feather is still required. It may be combined with any other feather(s).

A Pink Feather guarantees a Color Paint chick, regardless of the parents S-Genes. A Yellow or Green feather is still required. It may be combined with any other feather(s).

An Orange Feather guarantees a Boots chick, regardless of the parents S-Genes. A Yellow or Green feather is still required. It may be combined with any other feather(s).

A Purple Feather guarantees a Rainbow A chick, regardless of the parents S-Genes. A Yellow or Green feather is still required. It may be combined with any other feather(s).

A Cyan Feather guarantees the Feather Tail mutation. A Yellow or Green feather is still required. It may be combined with any other feather(s).
