The Story
Vanities are a relation to the Basilisk, a legendary cross between a reptile and a rooster. Of course, a Basilisk wouldn't make a very good pet. Vanities, however, are a much friendlier creature. A cross between a reptile and a peafowl, these legendary birds are loyal guard pets. Unlike a Basilisk, whose every glare is fatal, a Vanity is far less hazardous. Instead, Vanities rely on their claws and beaks to defend their homes if their posturing is insufficient. Fortunately, they may be tamed and trained to accept an owner, their family, and guests. Vanities are predominantly birdlike rather than reptilian.
Gender Balance
In the wild, Vanities live mainly in small flocks consisting of fewer males than females. This leaves many males roaming single or in very small all-male herds. These mateless males are easier to capture and tame than Vanities living in mixed-gender flocks. Accordingly, the majority of Vanities captured and tamed for adoption on PI are male. Approximately 25% of tamed Vanities will be female. Don't worry; these captured Vanities are not unhappy adjusting to domesticated lives. Young captured Vanities quickly acclimate to humans.
Availability
Vanities are available on PonyIsland! Look out for events in Adoptables General through auctions, flatsales, and giveaways. A breeding item can be used during breeding season to get a baby from another player's Vanities with their permission. These items are also available through auctions, flatsales, and giveaways.

Rules
1. Named Vanities may not be sold or traded. Only an unnamed bred Vanity may be sold or traded. Auction, flatsale, and giveaway Vanities may be gifted, unless otherwise specified for a particular event.
2. Every event will have event rules posted, which will be simple, but equally as important as these rules. Breaking the rules may result in a ban from that event or future events. It's easy to participate in Vanities events, and I want everyone to have fun, but some simple guidelines are important to assure things are easy and enjoyable for everyone.
3. Theft of Vanities art or Paypal fraud will result in repossession of Vanities and a ban from all Vanities events, as well as any repercussions through PonyIsland's rules.
