| Donna Thornberry graduated in Fall 1998 with a BS in Chemical Engineering and is currently working for Celanese Acetate in Narr Virginia in traditional chemical manufacturing. She is responsible for safe, efficient operation as well as implementing cost reductions, process optimizations, and new designs. She has just passed (as of March 2004) her Professional Engineering exam! Much more interesting than engineering, Donna's main hobby is Middle Eastern Dance and she has been dancing for 8 years. She finds the rhythms and emotional qualities of this dance style compelling and fulfilling. Her style has been described as "Lithe, elegant, and soulful in Raks Sharki; her dramatic style is intermixed with delightful spontaneity." She won the Best Kept Secret Award from Zaghareet magazine in 2000 and is the co-founder of the Southwest Virginia Middle Eastern Dance Association (www.swvameda.org) which provides opportunities to promote education and performance of Middle Eastern Dance. Donna has sponsored two workshops and Dance Potpourri, a variety dance show, in Blacksburg. She has taught workshops in Raleigh, NC; and Blacksburg, Virginia Beach, and Richmond, Virginia. She now lives in Blacksburg, Virginia, where she continues to practice and learn all she can about this expressive dance. |
