It is housed on the first and mezzanine floors of a newly renovated brick and marble nine-story building that was built in 1915, and is within walking distance of four major theaters (Heinz Hall, The Benedum, The O'Reilly and the Byham) and hotels (Marriott, Ramada-Downtown, Hilton and William Penn Omni and Westin Convention Center Hotel).
As you walk up the wheelchair-accessible ramp and proceed through the double glass doors to the foyer, your eyes are immediately drawn to a mural of two to three foot blown up photographs of Pittsburgh's jazz and blues entertainers, many of who are nationally known and those local musicians who are keeping jazz alive and well in Pittsburgh. A left hand turn through another pair of double glass doors brings you into a contemporarily decorated room that exudes a jazz ambiance. A lovely hostess greets you and graciously escorts you to your table. With its state-of-the-art sound system, marble and carpeted flooring, 50-foot main bar, cozy 12 seated Scotch Bar, elevated stage and large dance floor, you immediately realize that DOWE'S ON 9TH is a place unique unto itself. The L-shaped balcony, with hand-bent rot iron railing, outlines the 11,000 square foot room that seats 275 to 300 people comfortably, with an additional 42 seats at the two bars and seating for 75-100 on the balcony and the Banquet Room which is perfect for seminars, wedding receptions and parties, seating 150 guests. DOWE'S ON 9TH is the only jazz club/restaurant in Pittsburgh that offers live music nightly (contemporary jazz, salsa, big band and swing) Tuesday through Saturday. DOWE'S ON 9TH is gaining popularity all over the country because of the national recording artists it regularly features, such as Maynard Ferguson, Hugh Masekela, George Benson, Freddy Cole, The Four Freshmen, Karrin Allyson, The Yellowjackets, Vital Information, Slide Hampton, Donald Harrison, Monte Alexander, David �Fathead � Newman, Curtis Fuller, Steve Turre, the list goes on and on. Sunday begins our musical week with a Gospel Buffet from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. that features some of the area's most spirit-filled Gospel choirs, worship teams and soloists.
