SUPERIOR COURT OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON

IN AND FOR THE COUNTY OF KING

LARRY PITTMAN, et al.,

                                    Plaintiffs,

                        v.

KING'S COMMAND FOODS, INC.,

                                    Defendant

No. 99-2-52345-8 KNT

declaration of ron goodar in opposition to defendaNt's summary judgment motion

I, Ron Goodar, declare:

I am an African-American male and my address is: (redacted for this website).

I worked as a temporary employee at King's Command Foods through Interim/Spherion in 1999.  I worked there about two months.  I worked with Larry Pittman doing maintenance during days.  I reported to Terry Smith and Kirk McCoy.

There was a racially hostile environment at King's Command Foods.  It was mainly the way they treated people and the way they talked to them  They talked in a hostile manner to blacks but not to whites or Asians and they were especially harsh to Larry Pittman.

They would refer to him as boy this or ignorant that, or other demeaning terms.  They did this to me too.  Terry Smith and Kirk McCoy did it.

I remember that I was required to work outside in the rain without a raincoat.  I replaced a white guy outside who was working with Larry Pittman   They told us we would be more comfortable together.  Terry Smith mumbled that we weren't good enough to do anything else but shovel garbage or work in waste.  Larry had rubber boots but I only had tennis shoes.  He refused to give me boots or a raincoat.  I got grease all over my shoes that never came out.

I asked to be hired and they told me they didn't have openings.  When I asked for an application, they said they couldn't find any.  It was such a negative environment that I really didn't pursue it further.  I just tried to get my eight hours done.  I had a family to support and I just couldn't bother with it.  After my completion of temporary work at King's Command, I got a job at a food warehouse.  It was a much better environment and I was happy to be away from King's Command Foods.

I certify under penalty of perjury under the laws of the State of Washington the foregoing is true and correct.

Dated this 24th day of January, 2002.           Federal Way, Washington
