The film starts off with Mewtwo telling us his story from the First Movie. He explains that he was betrayed by Giovanni, and how Ash stopped the fighting to save the Pok�mon. He showed Mewtwo that he valued all Pok�mon life, whether they were cloned or not. Mewtwo then explains that he erased the memory of everyone, except Giovanni, and then he left with the clones to live in peace.
Giovanni is talking to an agent, who explains that she has found Mewtwo in the Johto region. Mewtwo is on an island with the clones, but he thinks that all the clones are outcasts, and must hide from mankind to survive.
Meanwhile, Ash, Misty and Brock discover Purity Canyon, which is the Johto region's greatest natural wonder. Brock explains to Ash and Misty using the guide book that a tour bus of the canyon leaves once a month, and they have arrived on the afternoon that it leaves. They see the bus driving to the stop, and start to run down the hill towards it. Suddenly, a terrible storm blows in, and Brock uses his frying pan as a "drying pan!" Team Rocket are having lunch nearby,and Meowth explains from the guide book that there are terrible typhoons around the area. They soon get blasted away by the strong winds. The bus leaves the stop early, because it is almost full and because of the poor weather.
Ash, Misty and Brock arrive at the bus stop. They speak to a lady and ask her when the bus leaves. She explains that thay have just missed it. After some flirting by Brock, she invites then to a nearby lodge.
The bus is travelling up the mountain, when suddenly the bus flies into mid-air by strong winds. Mewtwo is watching on a screen, and saves the bus with his psychic powers. Mewtwo explains to the clone of Meowth and Pikachu that an accident would attract too much publicity, and they could be found. He explains that he could never feel anything towards a human.
In the lodge, Ash ask for another method of transport. The lady introduces herself as Luna. Luna suggests that they travel by boat to Purity Canyon. The weather clears and Luna gives them a taste of the water from the river. They all like it except Ash. On the boat, Misty says that she will not let Bug Pokemon bug her! Misty spots a tree that seems to be glowing like a christmas tree, and Brock confirms that it is a flock of Ledian lighting up the tree. They continue to paddle through the river, until they reach some Kakuna and Beedrill. Misty is quick to paddle back to the lodge!
Back at the lodge, Brock suggests that they can go over Mount Ranor. Luna explains that there is a lake at the top called Clarity lake. She says that the height and the weather means that no one can live up there and visitors stay away. Only wild Pok�mon live there she explains. Ash is quick to react, and wants to travel up the mountain and catch some Pok�mon. They see a flock of wild Butterfree flying past the moon. Mewtwo also watches the same flock. He says to Pikachu and Meowth that they were born and they belong to this earth. He then says that he does not belong to this earth. The clones disagree and Pikachu says that they deserve to live there aswell. Meowth says that to those Pok�mon the moon is round, and it is round to the clones aswell, proving that they are similar.
At the lodge, visitors arrive. The first is a man named Cullan Calex. Luna recognises him as a famous researcher ot Pok�mon medicine. Cullan says it is a pleasure to meet Luna aswell, because she is a Pok�mon researcher. She explains to Ash that that is her second job. Cullan also introduces Domino. She works for the Pok�mon Institute. Brock is dragged away by Misty because he is flirting again! Luna explains that the bus has gone, but Cullan says that he is only here because of the water. He explains that it has an amazing affect on human and Pok�mon health. Luna explains that if the water is special, thousands of people will destroy the area. Team Rocket then make an entrance with fire crackers. Domino tries to avoid them. They catch Pikachu. They say that they have always been a team, but never had a Rocket. But that has changed now, because they have rockets on the side of the air balloon. Cullan explains that the air currents are too dangerous to fly anywhere. Team Rocket leave, but the weather worsens, and they start to be blown around.
Ash and friends decide to follow the balloon up the mountain. Whilst Luna, Brock, Misty, Ash, Cullan and Domino are climbing, the balloon flies right past them and the rope they are climbing with, and the rope gets caught onto the basket, leaving Luna, Domino, Cullan, Ash, Misty and Brock hanging from the rope beneath Team Rocket's balloon! The storm starts to clear and Domino uses a pair of video-binoculars to look at an island in the middle of Clarity Lake. She spots Mewtwo. She transmits the images to Giovanni, who is flying in a helicopter. Giovanni decides to get Mewtwo. Domino then spots the cloned Pok�mon, and Giovanni tells Domino to start the operation. Domino climbs the rope up to the basket and contacts the Team Rocket combat unit, who are nearby. Meowth sees the helicopters and askes where all the Meowth head balloons are!
Domino introduces herslef as the Black Tulip, who works for Team Rocket. She says that she is agent 009, but to others she is just Domino. She pops the balloon with a metal balck tulip and jumps off, and then glides away to Giovanni's helicopter. Ash and friends land in Clarity Lake and Team Rocket (who still have Pikachu) land on the Island in the middle of Clarity Lake. Pikachu is them shocked by its clone, and then slapped. The clone says that Pikachu should not have disturbed their peace. Neither Pikachu or Team Rocket know what a clone is (because Mewtwo erased their memories).
The clone is about to attack Pikachu again, but Mewtwo stops him. James then says "this is like a sequel to a movie I missed!" The cloned Pikachu then says that they should stand their ground or their home will be taken away. Mewtwo then notices the moon, and says that they should live in the shadows of moonlight. Pikachu then says that they should not have to live in secret just because they are cloned. Mewtwo says that they should stay on the island and live in peace.
Ash and friends swim to a shore far away from the island. Luna suggests that they sould build a canoe out of a severed tree branch. Ash uses Bulbasaur and Chikorita to shape the branch. Mewtwo then sees the combat helicopters from his screen. Pikachu says that they must leave or they will be used in cloning experiments. Meanwhile, Jessie and James are locked up, and Meowth is not. He explains that he is valuable, because he can speak English. Ash's Pikachu goes with Meowth and says he will capture it, and then maybe he will get a Team Rocket uniform!
Mewtwo is with some clones, and he watches some other Pok�mon leave, including both Pikachu's and Meowth's. They are leaving so they can be free. He cannot decide what is more iomportant, Protecting them, or their freedom.
Ash, Brock, Misty, Luna and Cullan arrive at the island in the middle (where Team Rocket and Mewtwo are). They find a spring. Cullan takes a water sample. He says that the readings he finds are off the chart with vitamins and minerals. They then see a baby Nidoqueen and Rhyhorn. Cullan explains that they are so healthy because of the water.
Pikachu and the other Pok�mon are then captured by Team Rocket. The Meowth's and the Pikachu's try to fend off the Team Rocket Pok�balls. They are about to get captured, but are saved by Mewtwo. Mewtwo then uses his powers to open up all of the other Team Rocket Balls. Giovanni attacks Mewtwo with some machines that his technicians have created. Mewtwo nearly destroys them. Domino leaves the helicopter to prepare for "phase 2".
On the island, the gang are captured by Team Rocket, who wrap metal rings around them, trapping them. Meanwhile, Jessie and James are discussing what the motto should be if Meowth doesn't return. Domino then catches the parents of the baby Nidoqueen and Rhyhorn. Mewtwo arrives and Giovanni follows. Giovanni tells Mewtwo that if he does not do what he says, the Pok�mon will be used in cloning experiments. Mewtwo agrees to do what Giovanni says. Mewtwo has to step between the two machines. He steps into a small pink sphere which drains him of his energy, and will harness his power. Now that Mewtwo is helpless, Giovanni tells him that he intends to build laboratories on the island.
The captured trainers and the captured Pok�mon meet. Ash sees Pikachu is badly hurt. Cullan gives both Pikachu the sample of water he took eariler. It revives them back to excellent health. They are put in a cage by Domino. Domino sees Jessie and James, and makes them start cleaning the buildings on the island! Giovanni starts the building work, and Luna tells Ash that they will pollute the waters and harm the wild Pok�mon that live on the island. The bug Pok�mon start to fill the area. Ledian, Butterfree and Beedrill start to destroy the work that is happening on the island. The cage gets destroyed, and Ash goes off to find Mewtwo. Luna and Cullan go up to the spring to check of the water has been contaminated. After taking more samples, Cullan finds that the water is OK.
Ash, Misty, Brock and Pikachu find Mewtwo in the sphere. Mewtwo realises that he must destroy the machines that are harnessing his strength. With the rest of his strength, he uses his powers to destroy them. Both the Pikachu's and the Meowth's tell Ash to give him some water. (To help revive him). Team Rocket appear, and try to stop them. Jessie and James try to avoid Giovanni because they do not want him to see their bills! Brock and Misty distract Team Rocket while Ash goes up to the spring with Mewtwo.
Whilst climbing the stairs to the spring, Mewtwo asks why Ash is helping him. Ash says that humans help Pok�mon. Mewtwo thinks that Ash is unique, because it seems to him that Ash is the inly human who wants to help him. At the spring, Ash and Mewtwo meet Luna and Cullan who are still testing the water. They explain that if Ash puts Mewtwo in the water, it could contaminate it. They have a spare sample that they can re-create in a lab, so Ash decides that saving Mewtwo's life was more important. He throws Mewtwo into the water. Mewtwo is slowly sinking to the bottom, and he starts to get his health back. He realises that the water has the same effect on him as it does to other Pok�mon, and therefore he does deserve to be on earth.
Mewtwo emerges from the spring. Ash says to him that he can't wait to tell Professor Oak about this, but Mewtwo says he will make them forget these events. Meowth comes out from hiding, and says that someday the baby Pok�mon will want to know where they came from, and they deseve to remember this. Brock then says that just forgetting things does not change the fact they happened. To ensure the safety of the clones, Mewtwo only erases the memories of Team Rocket (not Jessie and James though). Giovanni, Domino and the combat helicopters are returned to the Team Rocket base, totally unaware of what just happened.
Luna and Cullan discover they have a lot in common and decide to stay at the spring. The cloned Pok�mon depart, and the humans leave in a Pikachu head air balloon. Jessie, James and Meowth follow behind in the Meowth head balloon. While walking in a busy street, Ash thinks he hears Mewtwo talking to him. He says "I will remember you always."
The narrator then tells us that in a city far away, stories are told of a Pok�mon, but he is only seen by moonlight. |
