The second film starts in a airship. A Pokémon collector has set out to collect the most rare and mysterious Pokémon; Lugia. No one has ever seen it, but he is reading a stone that says Lugia shall appear when all three of the Legendary Birds are brought together in one place, and their harmony is disturbed. Each bird has its own island, in the Orange Isalnds.
The collector approaches Fire island, the island of the legendary bird Moltres. He attacks the island with ice and that freezes the island, and injures Moltres. He then attacks Moltres with special nets. Seriously injured, Moltres gets captured, and is sucked into the flying fortress. The fortress then starts to head for Thunder island, the home of Zapdos. The weather then suddenly turns really bad.
Ash, Tracey and Misty are riding a boat, captained by a guide to the Orange Islands. They let all their Pokémon out to have fun, but a storm blows in, and the ship gets badly damaged. The storm then blows then right off course, but the captain manages to land on another island.
Team Rocket are up to their usual tricks, and are following Ash and the gang in their submarine, the Mega-Magikarp. Suddenly, they lose their rudder, and are swept away by a school of real Magikarp, which carries them to the port, but the land on rocks nearby instead.
Ash's mum is gardening with Mr Mime when Professor Oak rides up on his bicycle, and starts commenting on the great weather. Out of nowhere a herd of Digglets travel down the road and carry Oaks bicycle off with them. Suddenly, it starts snowing, even though it is the middle of summer. They realise something is badly wrong.
Having landed on Shamooti island, Ash and his friends get off the damaged boat, only to be surrounded by a group of strangely dressed people. One of them takes off her mask. She is called Carol, and she explains that there is a festival that is celebrating the Pokémon Gods.
They are introduced to Melody, who is taking part in the ceremony. She seems to like Ash, which gets on Misty's bad side. She thinks that Misty is his sister, or his girlfriend, and she gets even madder! The group leaves the port, and heads to the pavilion where the ceremony will take place.
Ash tells the group that he is a Pokémon trainer, and during the festival party he is chosen to go to the Legendary Pokémon islands to retrieve these small globes, as part of the tradition. Apparently, the weather disturbances are caused by an unbalance in the Legendary Birds powers, and bringing all three globes from each island to the island that they are on, will tame the birds and calm the forces.
Ash wants to get started right away, and gets back in the boat to retrieve the first globe from Fire island with the gang.
The place where the globes are taken, there is a Slowking, and he says "Never catch a god of fire, a god of thunder or a god of ice. If you do, it will evoke their anger and the marine god cannot tame them alone, thus the world will turn to ash."
They sail to the first island. Team Rocket are washed ashore. The weater worsens and Melody voices her concerns about Ash's safety. She takes her mums boat (Carol's boat) and go to Fire Island totally unaware that Team Rocket are in the back of the boat.
Back in Pallet town, Delia and Oak watch the news and it tells them that the strange events seem to be centered in the Orange Islands. Professor Ivy telephone's them and says that the Pokémon at the breeding center are behaving strangely. Brock is running around in the background!
The stormy weather causes Ash's boat to lose it's rudder, and they crash land on Fire Island. Ash runs up the stairs and grabs the sphere from it's stand. Team Rocket are thrown from the boat onto Fire Island. Melody also lands her boat on Fire Island, and uses the sails to fly to the top.
At the top, Ash suddenly sees Melody's boat flying up the stairs using it's wind sail. Ash is about to get on, when Zapdos appears. Pikachu and Zapdos start communicating using electricity, and Meowth translates. They are talking, and Zapdos explains now that Moltres gas left, he claims the Island. It starts to shoot its electricity around the island when suddenly it gets all electricity sucked out of him, which weakens him.
The collector's ship is nearby, and nets are released out of the ship. They head Ash's way and capture Zapdos, The boat, Melody, Misty, Tracey and Team Rocket. They are all sucked into the ship.
Inside the ship, Ash and friends see the captured Pokémon. Melody notices a copy of a special inscription, and realises what the collector is up to. The collectors computer notified him of the guests, and he comes down to see who they are. He introduces himself, but then leaves to try and capture Articuno.
Ash notices that his Pokémon are acting oddly, and Melody tells him about the unbalance between the Legendary Birds affects the behaviour of the Pokémon.
Professor Oak and Ivy and Delia are all in a helicopter with a news crew inside. Oak explains about the unbalance, and we find out that Professor Ivy's real name is Felina. Delia explains that her son could be in serious danger.
The collector arrives at Ice Island and tries to capture Articuno. Melody reads the myth from the stone, and explains that the world could flood. Determined to stop the collector from a permanent unbalance, Ash and friends decide to free Moltres and Zapdos. Team Rocket join in with the effort to release the Pokémon, and succeed with Ash and Misty. Moltres then releases Zapdos, and the both fly straight through the wall outside. The birds attack the ship, and it crash lands on Lightning Island.
Pokémon from all over the world are travelling as close to the islands as possible to try and help tame the beasts. The weather gets worse, as the struggle goes on.
On Lightning Island, Ash and friends escape from the airship. Carol's boat land in a small river. The airship hits the shrine, amd the globe rolls to Ash. All the friends pile into Carol's boat. Suddenly, the boat falls into a river, and right by a massive waterfall. Just as its about to hit the sea, A massive blast of water saves the boat and It gets blasted off the shrine that has Slowking on it. But Team Rocket who are hiding in a life raft in the back, get blasted away. After the boat lands, Ash and friends jump out, and the boat plumits to the sea.
Just as the crew are finishing the interview with Delia Ketchum, A huge gust of wind blows the helicopter onto the main island, and everyone escapes.
Ash brings the 2 globes that he had to the main shrine, and places them infront of each island. Slowking appears behind him, and informs Ash that he is a globe short. Ash is about to leave, when suddenly the 3 Legendary Birds start attacking him. Then the huge water that saved him earlier appears again, and saves them. Then Lugia appears at the top of the water.
Lugia then begins to fight off the other Legendary Birds, and Melody recognises the sound it is making. Melody tells the others that alone he will fail, and the world will turn to ash. Ash then runs to Lugia, and warns it about the traps that the collector will have set. Lugia realises that Ash needs the third globe, and tells him to hop on. However, when Lugia is flying, Lugia gets attacked and falls to the sea. Melody then plays a special tune on a special flute, which revives Lugia. The collector is watching by a telescope. Lugia tells Ash that it is up to him to save the world by placing the three globes in the main shrine.
The sea that surrounds the islands has been frozen by the bad weather, but the snow is too thick for Ash to walk on. He then notices the wreckage of Melody's boat, and uses it as a sledge, that is pulled along my his Pokémon. He heads straight for Ice Island.
Team Rocket, who are on the Island decide they are fed up with being zero's, and want to be heros! The birds all begin to attack Ash, But Lugia saves him again. Ash and his Pokémon are halfway there, when suddenly Moltres attacks he ice and melts it, and Articuno freezes it back up, which creates a wall. He is totally stuck, but then he hears a noise.
Its Team Rocket! They have strapped on the crashed helicopters rotor blade to the back of the boat, and are using it as a hovercraft! They have changed the motto, and it goes like this:
Jessie: If that kid thinks we're here for trouble,
James: We're certainly going to burst his bubble,
Jessie: Instead of causing tribulation,
James: We've undergone a transformation!
Jessie: Though it's way outside our usual range,
James: We're going to do something nice for a change!
Jessie: Jessie!
James: James!
Jesse: Up til' now now Team Rocket's been quite unscrupulous,
James: Being good guys for once would be superdoupulous!
Meowth: That's right!
Team Rocket explain that without Ash they would be out of work, and they want to help. They dodge the attacks of the birds, and arrive at Ice Island. They travel to the top and Ash gets the shrine. Zapdos and Moltres destroy the hovercraft.
All the Pokémon that had been lined up on the shore are running across the ice to try and help with the battle. There are thousands!
Articuno then blasts the craft with its Ice Beam attack. It freezes all exits from the top of the stairs. Lugia appears again, and tells Ash to get on. Team Rocket hold onto its leg, and it takes flight.
Lugia is having great difficulty fending off the other birds, and Team Rocket decide that they are slowing him down. They decide to let go. As they are falling down, they think that they will hit the frozen ice, but in fact they land in a small unfrozen part of the sea, much to their surprise!
Ash is getting close to the main shrine, when the collector starts to fire on them with his special nets. Lugia destroys most of them, but they get too much, and he gets captured. However, before being captured, Lugia destroyes the fortress with a beam. Lugia crashes through the ice, and into the sea.
Ash also falls, but he surfaces unconscious. The friends on the main shrine decide to help out. Misty runs down and swims out with a rope. She reaches him, and Tracey pulls them back to shore. Ash wakes up, and insists on climbing the stairs to the shrine. He reaches the top exhausted, but he manages to place the globe in the final slot. He steps down and waits.
The shrine glows and Melody starts to play a soothing tune on the special flute. She begins to play the festival tune which magically brightens the sky, Suddenly, this pleasant green liquid starts pouring from the shrine, and into the sea. The song begins to tame the birds, and they wake up and fly into the sky. All of the Pokémon on the ice begin to celebrate. Suddenly, Lugia rises from the sea and asks Ash to ride him again. Whilst in the air, Lugia raises the damaged currents from the sea, which creates a beautiful arch like a rainbow. Eventually, it returns to the sea, where it belongs.
All of the Legendary Birds return to their islands, and all the Pokemon that have gathered, return, as they know that Ash and Lugia have saved the world.
When Ash and Lugia land, Ash asks if he will ever see Lugia again. Lugia says he will look forward to it. Lugia then returns to the sea, and Ash's mum comes running up to him. She says how she was so worried, but how proud she was. Team Rocket realise that they were the heroes for once! |
