| Solar Force (1993) Cast:Michael Pare, Billy Drago,Walker Brandt Pare stars as a lunar cop who comes from the moon to find a special chemical that has been stolen from the moon, on earth however he finds himself drawn to the cause of the earthlings and decides to protect them in this hilariously cheesy actioner. Yeah, Michael Pare is somewhat underrated sure he makes bad movies but he also makes some good ones, this however isn't one of them. Directed by Boaz Davidson, I must admit I was somewhat surprised at his vastly superior American Cyborg:Steel Warrior, I mean I couldn't recommend it because it was a rip off of The Terminator and Escape From New York but I admired how it tried to inject some ideas that made it watchable. Plus it was nicely filmed. Solar Force has quite a prolific cast that includes Billy Drago and Michael Pare that one was expecting Boaz Davidson to really capture the potentional he failed to squeeze out in his previous movie. Alas he doesn't, mainly because half of the time Michael Pare forgets all about the chemical he's supposed to be finding in order to fight Road Warrior type bandits, after Pare has slaughtered the bad guy bikers, then it finally turns back into the melodrama about the special chemical as well as the lunar patrol sending a cyborg to take him out, by then though most viewers are either bored to tears or laughing their heads off. Aside from the fact that this movie was obviously made on the cheap, Davidson directs every dialouge scene with wooden transparency. Solar Force is anything but good, but I must admit that I was glad I saw it. I mean afterall I have seen some more or less painful clunkers that had no unintentional humor, this one had so much I couldn't stop from laughing. In other words Solar Force is so amazing in it's sheer awfulness that I came up smiling. So if so bad their good movies are your thing give this one a look, however if not avoid this like you would avoid your mother in-law. D.Boaz Davidson * (**** Camp Rating) |
