| Sci-Fighter (2005) Cast:Don "The Dragon" Wilson, Cynthia Rothrock,Lorenzo Lamas,Aki Aleong,Daneia Mayid A father and son martial arts duo (Wilson and Mayid) get trapped in a videogame and must fight their way out to get back to reality in this hilariously bad actioner which believe it or not is a cross between Virtual Combat and Bloodfist VIII:Hard Way Out! (Yikes) The action sequences are lame and although the choreography is decent, the director fails to inject any life in them and the whole movie fails. Sci-Fighter has it's moments of entertainment, it really does, although this is of the unintentional hilarious kind. For instance the son in the movie, is caught sipping a beer, to which Wilson understandably grounds the nastyly little tyke, what does grandpa (Aleong) say "Happy birthday, your mom would be proud of you!" WTF! He was just caught drinking and throwing a party (A lame one, even by 14 year old standards.) and yet his mother would be proud? One of the things even worse about this movie is that the kid is obnoxious and I was often amused at just how mean spirited this kid is. Don "The Dragon" Wilson is okay as the father, as his whole nice guy appeal is adequate to the part, also he's a far better actor than Mayid ever was. However worst of all is that The Dragon has lost his edge. Much like former actionstars making straight to video movies, The Dragon has seemed to settle for actionscenes that come off as cartoonish rather than intense. Let's face it, this guy is a long ways away from Bloodfist III:Forced To Fight and Blackbelt. Movies like Sci-Fighter are only as good as their directors and although Camacho showed promise in 1998's Recoil, his subsequent work has been mediocre at best (Redemption) and terrible at worst (Gangland). Sci-Fighter falls somewhere in the middle because at least there's some unintentional amusement as well as a film appearance by Braddock Missing In Action III's Aki Aleong. Rothrock is wasted but is easily the most likable presence and Lorenzo Lamas shows up to do absoluately nothing, so we thankfully don't have to witness any attempts at true constipated thesping.
