| Future War (1996) Cast:Daniel Bernhardt, Robert Z'Dar,Travis Brooks Stewart Bernhardt stars as a slave from the future who comes to Earth which is a haven to the human species, since cyborgs enslave us in some unknown planent (This movie makes little sense.) and so they send a cyborg after him to retreive him, they also send dinosaurs to track him and his scent in this very bad actioner which you can now find on DVD, in your nearest bargain bin! The problem with Future War is that it's too hopeless to ever approach anything of quality. First off the special effects are terrible, with dinosaurs looking so puppet-like that one wonders exactly what the budget was for this thing. Z'Dar (Best known for the Maniac Cop movies) is second billed but doesn't surface until the last twenty minutes and Bernhardt is no worse than any other Van Damme wannabe but even his fightscenes are limply choreographed and desperately dire. Future War does have some unintentional laughs which didn't make this painful to sit through but let's be honest, it's not nearly funny enough to hit ROTOR like inspired awfulness and Future War actually ironically reminded me of the Jean-Claude Van Damme dud Cyborg. (Even the cover, which you can see on IMDb, looks similar.) Actually this could've made for an interesting actioner had it been filmed in a desert (Which would give plausibility to how dinosaurs trained on human scent somehow manage to only be attracted Bernhardt.) and had it taken place in a post apoclypse world but the cheapness ruins it. Also Daniel Bernhardt and Z'Dar turn in dreadful performances, although remain far more superior to most of the cast. Also the title indicates nothing and for the most part this has no futuristic plot angles. Future War is certainly a terrible movie but it didn't annoy me, it also didn't amuse me either. So due to it's quality I have to rate it as movie worth avoiding. D.Anthony Doublin* |
