| Death Before Dishonor (1987) Cast:Fred Dryer,Sasha Mitchell,Paul Winfield,Brian Keith,Joanna Pacula Fred Dryer stars as a marine who with his soldiers takes on a group of middle eastern terrorists in an orgy of patriotic violence which guarantees to send these mad arabs running for the hills in this utterly stupid actioner which if taken seriously is blatantly racist and obnoxious. I must admit I rented this only to catch up on Sasha Mitchell's filmography, because well I like the man. Mitchell can act, fight and has a charisma that makes him a cut above most actionstars in the D-grade war game arena, unfortunately Death Before Dishonor gives Mitchell and the talented cast (Excepting Dryer) nothing to work with. Winfield is especially wasted. So the question is, does Death Before Dishonor provide good actionscenes? Well, sadly no. The actionscenes are so unexciting and unimaginative that at times my eyes glazed over much of the time. However what ruins the movie is it's racist content with the arabs. True, The Delta Force had Arabs as bad guys but there the characters had personalities, so the jingoism went down better, plus the actionscenes were well done. Death Before Dishonor when compared to The Delta Force or even Rambo:First Blood Part II is a complete disaster by comparison. The script is trite, moronic and poorly written causing a ripple effect on the movie for Death Before Dishonor is cheap, manipulative, racist, laughable and just plain bad. Not even Sasha Mitchell can save this mess from the trash bin. D.Terry J. Leonard * |
