The Chronicles Of Riddick (2004)

Cast:Vin Diesel,Keith David, Colm Feore, Thandie Newton,Judi Dench

Vin Diesel stars as Riddick, a serial killer who remains the only hope against an army of bad guys out to conquer all the planets in the galaxy, along the way he escapes from the clutches of them, as well as escaping from bounty hunters and the like in this completely ridiculous and super-tedious action flick which tries to hard to be the next
Matrix.

It's true that Diesel is completely pissing away his career, after watching
XXX, A Man Apart and now this, one has completely given up on Vin Diesel. The main flaw with Chronicles Of Riddick is that it only has enough plot to stretch out 90 minutes, not 2 hours and Chronicles Of Riddick is way too long.  Also the actionscenes are filmed in such a confusing way, one can't tell who's hitting who and what's going on half of the time. This isn't good because action is what this mindless muck is all about, yet somehow Twohy manages to screw everything up with his overuse of camerawork, indeed when one is wishing for the camerawork of Albert Pyun this isn't a good sign, although let it be said Pyun has never chopped up the actionscenes this much ever.  It's a strictly pedestrian sequel to a suprisingly enjoyable movie, some movies beg for sequels and some do not and Pitch Black was definitely one that didn't, afterall it was just a monster movie. Turning Vin Diesel's character into a mystic hero is somewhat daft, especially since the guy is a serial killer and that even the characters anknowledge him as evil but nobody seems to care, it's just as if well he's less evil than the other guy so we'll go with it. Honestly half way through I was so bored, I didn't care anymore.  This is a prime example of what's wrong with hollywood, there is no reason that an actioner of this caliber should be longer than 90 minutes, making it PG-13 also doesn't help matters since the action is watered down and bloodless. With no hardcore action, no story to enjoy and too much macho posturing, one can't help but oust this as a complete failure. D.David Twohy *
