| Assassins (1995) Cast:Sylvester Stallone, Antonio Banderas,Julianne Moore Two assassins compete over a 2 million dollar mission while Sly ponders retirement and Banderas wants to be the new guy on the top of course they end up facing each other at the end and of course the outcome is predictable and the movie is just as boring. This is a prime example of a movie that killed the action genre. It really is that awful. A major disappointment from Richard Donner and indeed the combined talents of Stallone and Banderas. The movie's action sequences are over the top but that didn't bother me, what did though was how overblown they were and indeed how lame they were conducted. This is the type of movie that makes PM's dumbest effort seem like a 4 star classic. However what mars this asinine picture is the completely boring finale which renders this movie as one of Stallone's worst movies of his career. It really is something awful to behold. Assassins not only pales in comparison to films like The Killer, The Mechanic, The Day Of The Jackal, and A Better Tomorrow. Assassins is literally blown out of the water by straight to video solid assassin flicks like The Silencer, Silent Trigger, The Killing Man and Sabotage, in fact this film pales in comparison to The Hitman, Hidden Assassin and The Replacement Killers if this is any indication. Assassins is a truly awful movie, and if you see it no matter my warnings, good luck. You'll need it. D.Richard Donner* |
