Why BODYCOUNT movies are controversial
Ever since movies have been made, there is one genre that has been controversial and overlooked, ACTION. Being my favorite genre and a popular one among guys and teens alike this genre has taken blows from critics who care about "ART" well Action is an art, and few hollywood directors/actors can pull of the entertainment level of these movies that thrive in on an orgy of gunfire. Many people die in these movies but that's not the point, the point is that these movies are what inspire are masculinity and inspire to stand up for ourselves, Umm okay mabie not, we just like seeing shit blow up real good or watching a muscular hero save his daughter , country,girlfriend,old neighbors and the innocent in general..Sometimes a guy(I say man because women never ever watch these movies, and if they do it doesn't connect at the same level.) needs some escapism from the everyday world, that causes strokes,heart attacks,hair loss and unsightly nose-hair. It's a way of unwinding if you will.
However "BODYCOUNT movies" are often attributed to why a kid takes a gun and shoots up his school. And all of a sudden parent groups,senators and everyone else and their dog are protesting, But on that theory shouldn't all of us critics who participated in this survey be locked up in an asulyum because as kids and teenagers we thrilled to watching Arnold Schwarzenegger kill a guy with a lead pipe, Or Sly Stallone kill commies with explosive tip arrows. Which often prompts the question : "Is Hollywood marketing blood,doom and masculinity to kids?" No. Hollywood is simpily giving the public what it wants. It's a natural fact that kids, Boys in particular like violence. The top fazes over the years for kids were "Power Rangers","Pokemon","Masters Of The Universe" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" very violent shows, and yet despite the controversy the bottomline is morals are great but money and ratings are far more importiant. So who is to blame for a kid picking up a gun and shooting up his school? In the immortal words of Willy Wonka-The Mother and The Father.
This market has been hit hard ever since the unfortunate events of the columbine shootings, so hard that movies with over 30 kills go straight to video. Which is why Seagal,Van Damme and Lundgren are having trouble getting anything released to theaters. Schwarzenegger's "Collateral Damage" tanked at the B.O,Stallone's D-Tox is going straight to video. Frankly what action movies need is a comeback,because we miss the old days where we could go to the theaters and watch Arnie mow down cubans,arabs or any bogeyman. For what makes a good bodycount movie are these simple things:Style,guns,muscular hero,motivation,good action and a bodycount. It's that simple. |
