ode to johnny: my favorite punk
i remember it was near the end of 8th grade, and i came home from school, and, for some odd reason (odd because i never watched this channel), i turned the tv onto vh1.  they were part-way into their celebration, '25 years of punk,' and were showing the segment on the sex pistols.  i was captivated by this johnny rotten character, and, when it was over, i ran over to the computer (the very same one i'm typing this up on), and looked up information on him, finding pictures and audio clips.
'wow,' i thought.  'he's pretty cool.'
then i promptly forgot all about him and the sex pistols.
in the middle of 9th grade, i became interested in punk.  my dad loaned me ramones and clash tapes, and i even remember studying for a science exam while listening to iggy pop.  'great!' i thought, very excited.  then something clicked in my brain: johnny rotten and the sex pistols.  i paid no attention to the thought until the beginning of 10th grade, and went out and bought
never mind the bollocks...  i loved it, and became interested in all things johnny. he's witty, funny, intelligent, and sarcastic, all things i like.  and, to be perfectly honest, sid always sort of freaked me out.  you know, the whole self-destructive phase, cutting himself onstage, etc.  gross.  so here it is, johnny rotten, my favorite punk.
