All About Me

*************************************************

I'm a 22 year old science teacher living in Youngsville, NC I've technically been from a lot of places, including Milan, Illinois; Bettendorf, Iowa; and Evansville and Bloomington, IN. I just received a BS in psychology and a BA in French from the University of Evansville. I spent a semester in France awhile ago and can't wait to go back. I really liked the food there. Teaching keeps me insanely busy, but that's how I function best. When I have free time, I love to cook and play around in my garden, which go together because I prefer to use fresh spices and ingredients. I'm also trying to knit, but since it's easier to crochet, I usually do that instead. I speak a bit of Russian, and I'm a huge fan of Chekhov, Akhmatova, Bulgakov, and Russian authors in general (see my books page. My free time, above all else, is spent with my wonderful husband and cat.

My favorite places in the world are the beaches at Cassis, in France, and the steps of the Palais de Justice in Aix-en-Provence on grands marchés days.  I like to lie in the sun and watch the sea, and the people.  And I like to eat.  I have lots of France stories, if anyone would ever like to hear them.   I have a lot of stories.  Sometimes I make them up, and sometimes they seem too odd to be true, leaving you, the listener, to guess as to whether it ever happened. I'm proud to say that I once took a moral stand by dropping a class because the econ prof had no soul, and I could not in good conscience remain in his class, where I was constantly offended by his big business-friendly ideas. My plans for the future include Teaching for America, attending grad school in social psychology, getting back to France as much as possible, and maybe winning the Nobel prize in economics someday. I'd also like to learn to speak Turkish and fly a plane, and I'd consider it an honor to eventually get blacklisted by the FBI based on my skills and political ideas. If I had to spend the rest of my life doing something, it would be lying on the beach rading Chekhov. I love statistics and think that socialism might just hold the key to world peace.  But, we'll see.

Some of my dislikes: being called Em, bad drivers, "Them," people who don't care about politics, the term "graphic organizer," and the whole state of Texas.

Some of my likes:  rum and cokes, sablés de confiture (French sugar cookies sandwiched together with jam), cooking enough for 10 people just in case they show up, penguins, Carmen, and NPR.
