The Catacombs

Under Paris lies a huge collection of bones from area cemeteries that were overflowing.  When I was in France a year ago, I was fortunate to be able to visit it.  This place was awesome.  It was cold and dark, but not as nasty (and smelly) as you'd expect from all the bones laying around.  This was the one place in Paris I absolutely wanted to see.  We had some free time the first day there, so while all the girls in my group wussed out and went shopping, the guys and I hopped on the Metro and spent the afternoon underground.  It was much more crowded than I'd thought it would be, but it was ok.  There are about 2 or 3 kilometers of paths open to the public down there, and it took us probably an hour or two to see everything we could.  You're not s'posed to take pictures, but since everyone else was I did too.  And I'm very glad, because when I got back and passed my pictures around, I grossed out all the stupid girls in my French class.  I think the pictures are cool, but I guess if you don't like seeing old bones, you shouldn't look at this.  They may take a little time to load, but they're definitely worth it.
