Paul McCartney

Adored by female fans as the handsome, "baby-faced" Beatle, Paul McCartney has gentle looks that hide an iron will and a steely determination. He's a "workaholic" with a strong sense as to how things should be done, and while this has to friction to some of his professional relationships, it has also ensured that he has remained firmly in the public spotlight for over four decades.
Paul was always the Beatle most in love with being a member of the Fab Four. He enjoyed performing concerts more than the other three, and he was the last to want to quit touring. His competitive nature spurred both John and himself to greater heights as songwriters, and it was he who struggled to keep the band together when cracks started to appear. On the other hand, he's also apt to tread carefully: He was the last member of the group to experiment with drugs, the last one to get married, and the only one to be wary of manager Brian Epstein's eventual successor, Allen Klein.

"Macca," as he's fondly known is the only Beatle not to have been divorced. He is a publicity man's dream-extremely courteous to fans and eager to do interviews-yet he treasures the simple privacy of his Sussex country-side home and his farm in Scotland's Mull of Kintyre. An astute businessman (at least since his Beatle days), he's one of Britain's wealthiest citizens. What's more, Paul is among the nation's most celebrated environmentalists and animal rights activists.
