| The Holy Shrine of Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia A Symbol of Peace and Harmony Dargah Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia had propagated the spiritual teachings, the teachings of real Sufism (Islamic- Mysticism) to the people of the world. Spread the message of love, peace, tolerance, sacrifice and universal brotherhood for the mankind. He had lived a life of strict austerity in the tradition of Sufi saints. Sufism or Islamic Mysticism with the spread of Islam came to India with Sufi saints from the Middle Eastern countries during the 11th and 12th centuries. A.D. It was by the overpowering spell and charm of their magnetic personality, spiritual powers and exemplary conduct that they won the hearts of millions of people of India and thus laid the foundation of Sufism in this country. Sufi saints preached love among all classes of people. The lives of these humble and peaceful Sufi saints who brought nothing with them except the name of God and the message of universal love and brotherhood were exclusively dedicated to the cause of religious enlightenment of the suffering mankind. As such they were naturally loved and respected by all classes and ranks of people from a peasant to a prince. They made India their home, lived here and gloriously passed away in the service of mankind. Besides the Holy Grave of Hazrat Khawaja Nizamuddin Aulia at his Dargah, there are many graves of king, princes, princesses, great men of Islam etc. in the holy precincts of this famous shrine. There is an old �Khanqah Sharif� (Monastery) in the northeastern corner of Humaiyun�s tomb. Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia used to make his holy devotions and religious practices in its seclusion. And at his Langar-Khana (Kitchen) thousands of people, especially the needy and poor were fed daily. The Holy Shrine of the Great Sufi Saint of India Hazrat Khawaja Nizamuddin Aulia is a world-renowned spiritual Centre of the country. People of different faiths and religions used to visit the shrine daily in large number from all over the country and seek spiritual blessings of the saint. His mission of love, peace and universal brotherhood is still continued even after his death and a lapse of about seven centuries. The saint was very compassionate and merciful in nature; he treated all people with compassion and sympathy. Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia has said, �To hurt a human heart is to hurt the grace of God�. A Sufi dervish must never curse any body however great may be the persecution which he may suffer. He must always refrain from disclosing the faults of the people, which is a virtue and one of the best devotions to God. The Indian Sufi Saints have always played a very important role in promoting peace harmony and tolerance. In fact the first act of wisdom, after faith in God, is the love of humanity and doing good to all, regardless of their virtues and vices. Peace and love have no limitations; it cannot be confined within boundary walls or to any particular community, society or country but it should cross all borders and barriers and must reach to the whole mankind. |
