Ok, I compared four website servers (Angelfire, Freeservers, Geocities, Tripod) non-prejudice to determine the best. This is unique to you MB peoples, and it took me (literally) hours to try them all. Appreciate it! So, let's begin:
(1)Best Site Name: Freeservers
A) www.angelfire.com/emo/pirotessdaedir
F) www.michirukaiou.freeservers.com
G) www.geocities.com/pirotess_daedir
T) www.tripod.com/emo/pirotessdaedir
(1)Most Space: Tripod
A) 20MB
F) 12MB
G) 18MB
T) 21MB
(5)Least Banners: Angelfire
A) Banner pops up and stays when minimized
F) Banners pop up at each page, though they shrink into background, still annoying
G) Banner is on webpage itself, easily minimized but appears on each page
T) Banner similar to Angelfire except un-minimizes at each page
HTML STUFF:
(2)Nicest FileManager Layout: Geocities
A) Pretty nice, but list squeezed into a little box. Good color scheme and easy to locate things. Also has site links for help.
F) Opens up new box (which can't be maximized), nice color scheme. Fairly easy to find things, but some tacky pieces in layout
G) Similar to Angelfire but is spread out across screen with more information about the pages. Nice color scheme and easy to find things
T) Hideous color scheme. Fairly easy to find everything, some is confusing. Spread out across screen but not a bunch of info
(2)Best HTML Editor Layout: Geocities or Angelfire
A) Takes up left side of screen, nice color scheme still and fairly straight forward. Has a reset and preferences button, no save and continue button
F) The editing box is still in the smaller window, decent color scheme. A little confusing, not bad. Buttons basic and a bit confusing.
G) Biggest box to actually edit HTML, fairly straight forward. Nice color scheme. Has a reset, new, and "save and continue" button, allowing you to save without exiting. Has a table maker for the slightly HTML impaired.
T) Hideous color scheme, still. Basic buttons, no "save and continue". "Save as", new, and open buttons. Also has a decent color pallette (for the slightly HTML Color Code impaired).
SITE BUILDER STUFF:
(3)Easiest to Use: Tripod or Geocities Page Wizard
A) I couldn't even find a site builder, though I did find an HTML "cut and paste" library. I wouldn't recommend this to the HTML impaired. Did have Java script library, which I may use for MY site.
F) Can easily add pages and easy to follow. Four layouts and four color schemes (only liked two of them). Then you have to open the page and there's an "edit" button next to everything. You click the edit button to edit it, but easy to edit. Does make you use br tags (basic HTML)
G) Page Wizard and Page Builder. Wizard- TONS of designs and on the design I picked, 4 colors. Title, one picture (upload or default), 3 info areas, 8 links, email. Builder- Same templates available, but the program itself is more like FrontPage. You can add pictures, text, etc all easily. I like it (and I'm an HTML person).. A little confusing though
T) Easy to find, lots of templates. After choosing template and what I want, I could select a colorful design (TONS of those too). Pretty much same thing as freeserver (all the edit buttons).. except there's a tool bar below for easy shortcuts (add text, picture, link, web gem, page, change look, move, copy, delete, preview site, and publish to web). Very well done, and decent color scheme
(3)Best Result: Angelfire*
*This really depends on what you want in your site. If you just want a simple site to tell basic crap, I'd recommend Geocities Page Wizard or Freeservers. However, if you want a more complex site for which you're willing to work a little harder - Angelfire or Geocities Page Builder. Tripod is in between with not as nice stuff as Angelfire and GPB, but more variety and nicer colors/layouts than Freesavers or GPW. I personally say Angelfire.
All this stuff is basically based upon information included in above question.
GENERAL (AGAIN):
(5)Nicest to Computers (10 person survey): Hard to tell
I found that most people either had no issues or issues with all three (most hadn't heard of freeservers)
A) The banner only comes up once - which is annoying - but is nice when minimized. The pop-up adds occasionally kill computer.. mostly freezes browser.
Solution: Ctrl+Alt+Delete, select and click "end task". Wait and click "end task" again. Restart if crashes.
F) Not many have tried it. The banners (since there are so many) usually are just obnoxious as heck, but it's frozen browsers occasionally.
Solution: Same as Angelfire.
G) Usually crashes browser then freezes computer if it does harm. Harsh on AOL users especially.
Solution: Same as above if browser frozen. Restart if computer frozen or if anything crashed.
T) I can personally say I despise Tripod in this category. It has frozen my browser AND computer so many times.. General survey is not too many problems, usually frozen computers.
Solution: Restart computer.
(2)Best Load Time: Geocities
I put the exact same text ("Testing Load Time"), background (black), and color text (white) on each of the four servers and loaded.
A)6 seconds for the page and banner to load
F)10 seconds for the page and banner to load
G)2 seconds for the page and banner load
T)Tripod was being stupid and I couldn't figure out my own web address. Load time of the error page was about 10 seconds
(1)Most Wins: Geocities
Angelfire: 3 - Least banners, Best HTML Editor Layout, Best Result
Freeservers: 1 - Best Name
Geocities: 4 - Nicest FileManager Layout, Best HTML Editor Layout, Easiest Builder to Use, Best Load Time
Tripod: 2 - Most Space, Easiest Builder to Use
Most Points:
I tried to give each category points based on how important it is (seen to left, in ()s, of title).
Angelfire- 10 point(s)
Freeservers- 1 point(s)
Geocities- 10 point(s)
Tripod- 4 point(s)
AND THE WINNER(S) ARE: ANGELFIRE AND GEOCITIES!!!
