Pirates Wild About Playoffs

Andy Kirby, who has had a strong second half of
the season, starts up the double play against the Cardinals. |
Sept 28, 2006.
Pittsburgh, PA - The Pirates dream
season continues to roll along as they defeated the St. Louis
Cardinals to capture the National League Wildcard and their
first playoff birth in HHASL history. "It definitely has
been a dream season, just ask anybody in the clubhouse that was
here last year. After losing 100 some odd games last year
I didn't expect to be playing in the playoffs this year." A
champagne soaked Tom Sefcik told the media.
The Pirates captured the NL Wildcard on the second last game of
the season beating the Cardinals by a
score 8-7 in front of a sellout crowd of 38,127 at PNC Park.
Johnny A. Brady broke a 7-7 tie in the bottom half of the 7th
inning by singling Eddie Thornton home from third. Ty Chapman
closed out the game in ninth by getting Joe Joyce out by a pop
up to third to collect his National League leading 36th save.
Weldon Murphy was credited with his 8th win of the season.
The Pirates are matched up against the San Diego in the Division
Series. George McGuire gave us his
insight on the series "They are going to be a tough match up,
they have such a strong pitching staff but
our offense has really clicked and I know we're capable of
having some big games. We'll just have to
see what happens." The playoffs start in the chat room on
Wednesday February 19th sometime around 8 pm EST. |
