The Pirates

From seventeen inches to thirty feet, boats of all sizes play an important role in our home. We are the "Pirates @ 40". It all began with Jeff, having been a member of the Confederation Marine Modellers and then the "Metro Marine Modellers" for nearly 20 years, Cindy had no choice but to join in and bought her own boat that she takes to most shows and events. Jeff has a fleet of models including sail boats, tugs, freighters and a battleship all in radio control.

Our interest in boats is not only the miniature type but also the tugs and lake freighters that frequent the "Welland Ship Canal" and ports around the Great Lakes. Many days are spent taking pictures and capturing the character of these working vessels to be used in dressing our own model boats. The canal provides an ideal place to shoot pictures of vessels in close proximity with the lift locks holding up the vessels for a more in depth look of each.

Sailing full sized boats is also a big part of our lives whether it's in our Siren "Lorelei" a trailerable seventeen foot day sailer - weekender or club racing on a CS-30 "Hoots II" with friends at the "Port Dover Yacht Club". Racing is an important way to hone your sailing skills and provide a barometer on how efficiently you sail your boat reletive to others.
