Fried Apple Pies

Crisco Pie Crust

Applesauce Filling |

Crust Sift flour in large bowl. Work in Crisco until mixture is the size of a pea. Dough will be stiff, knead until smooth. Pinch into balls (baseball size), and chill for 2 hours.
Filling Peel, core, slice and cook 6 tart apples. Stir until smooth. Add sugar and spices. Cool.
Pies Roll one ball of dough on floured surface until 6" round. Put ¼ cup applesauce on one side of circle. Brush outer edges with water. Turn side (opposite applesauce) over to make half circle. Press outer edges together with fingertips to seal. Add 1 Tablespoon Crisco and 1 Tablespoon margarine to pan. When melted, place pie in oil to fry (may do three at a time). Cook 5-7 min. on first side (until brown). Carefully turn to other side and cook until brown. |
