Pirate Palate - Ice Cream Sandwich Cake - Thomas Crocker

Pirate PalateIce Cream Sandwich Cake

One Sunday morning I woke up to go to church. It was the fifth Sunday of the month, which meant that there would be a covered dish meal right after the eleven oclock service. After the sermon, everyone headed over to the community building for lunch. I always look forward to these fifth Sunday meals because of the incredible food. There is usually fried chicken, biscuits, and plenty of vegetables.

My favorite thing about this meal is the dessert. I always go and get my dessert first before it's all gone. It usually goes fast, so if you want any of it, you better get up there as soon as you can. I usually get some of my mom's delicious brownies and some amazing banana pudding that this lady from my church makes. I don't even like banana pudding, but this stuff is to die for. She makes the biggest pan of it, and it's all gone before lunch is halfway through.

Today there was something new at the desserts table. Mrs. Vester had attempted a new recipe. It was an Ice Cream Sandwich Cake that looked astonishing. There were two layers of ice cream sandwiches that were held together by whipped cream, crushed Butterfinger bars, and chocolate syrup. I drooled as I stared at this ingenious creation. I scooped up as much as I could, and then filled my dessert plate with it.

When I got to a seat, the first thing I did was take a bite of the cake. It tasted just as good as it looked. I fell in love with it. I requested Mrs. Vester to make it every time we had a meal at church. I even got my mom to try and make it for my birthday last year. It was pretty good, but not quite as good as good as Mrs. Vester's. My girlfriend and I even tried making it, and it was actually not too bad. I was very proud of our attempt at the masterpiece. We let her parents try it, and they thought it was really good. I'm going to serve it to my parents this weekend to see what they think.
