Rocky Road Candy
Lisa Messinger
My entire family and I love sweets. I believe it went back all the way to my great-grandmother Martha Edwards. My family remembers her as a great candymaker. Whenever my sister and I would go over to her house, there was always homemade candy around. My entire family loves to cook and bake, but sweets are something that they continued to make generation to generation.
Our rocky road candy recipe was passed down from my mother's side of the family. It started from my great-grandma and has stuck with my family all the way to my mother. We're not sure where it came from, but we have enjoyed it through our generations. My grandma is not sure if her mother inherited it or if she started it, but she has always liked it.
My great-grandmother had nine kids, so she didn't have too much time to cook and was always busy with something. Whenever kids started whining or complaining, all she had to do was put some ingredients together, and they were happy.
The rocky road candy is easy to make and leaves everyone with smiles on their faces. We would almost always have this dessert whenever we would go over to our grandmother's house to eat. It is always a good dessert if you are in a rush to make something quick. There's no baking, just melting the chocolate and mixing the ingredients. It can be done in five minutes. This dessert always seems to be made around Christmas time. It is a great finger food for after dinner. We also would make it and give it as gifts to other families.
The rocky road candy is perfect for chocolate lovers. I really especially enjoy it with some ice cream or milk, but it is always good on its own. It tends to get messy, but kids don't seem to mind it. We would always lick it straight off our fingers and go for more.
