Pirate PalateBaked Macaroni & Cheese

Lindsey Scott

My family's macaroni and cheese recipe was passed down from my great-great-grandmother, to my great-grandmother, and then to my own mother. I am thankful that my mother learned the recipe before my elders passed because I feel as though things of that kind should not be wasted.

I love all of my family memories and I treasure every moment when we ate this delicious dish in the past. It was more sentimental to me then than what it is now because we were a big family and everyone was involved in some sort of way. We used to always have it on Sundays for dinner with a variety of foods, desserts, and beverages.

Yet, now that our family is not the same anymore, caused by the death of my great-grandmother, its just a close family gathering now. It usually consists of my mother, grandmother, sister, and I, sometimes a couple of friends, and its not a big meal as it used to be.

Now we may have it with fried chicken or fried porckchops, mashed potatoes and gravy, cabbage, pinto beans out of the crock-pot, cornbread, and always kool-aid. I feel as though regardless of what it is eaten with, the macaroni and cheese makes the whole meal worth eating.
