Pirate PalatePeanut Butter Brownies

Latoya Vines

I am the youngest of five kids. My sister who is closer to me in age lives at home, but I also have an older brother and a sister who both live about an hour away. My other sister lives the farthest away in South Carolina, and that's about a six-hour drive.

Latasha is the one who lives in South Carolina, and she is an awesome cook. She is always coming up with different ideas of how to cook something; she can cook pretty much anything. Anything she can't cook, she learns to cook it, and she masters it.

Since she and I hardly ever see each other, she is always calling me, giving me different recipes. She has given me recipes for cookies, cakes, spaghetti, and lots of other things. I remember once, she called to tell me about this cake recipe that she came up with in a dream. When she woke up, she wrote it down, but I'm not sure whether or not she tried it out.

Sometime at the end of last year, Tasha called me saying that she had just tried out a new brownie recipe, and that I just had to try it. Not really feeling like cooking that day, I wrote down the recipe, telling her that I would try it later. When I told her that, she said, "No. Go ahead and try it now so you can tell me how they come out."

After we hung up, I went ahead and made the brownies, and they were so good. My mother and sister tasted them and loved them. The next thing I knew, I was making them on Sundays for dessert, bake sales, my anatomy and physiology class, and I even baked some for my friend's birthday, and we ate them at lunch.

I really started to enjoy baking these brownies, and trying the new recipes that my sister gave me. I enjoy doing it because it's something that my sister and I can share. Yesterday, I called to wish her a happy birthday, and she called me back to tell me that she has another cake recipe to give me. In about a year, I'll probably have enough recipes to start my own book (of course giving her credit).
