Mom's Cinnamon Rolls

1 3/4 cups flour
3/4 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/3 cup margarine, softened
3/4 cup milk
soft margarine
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon



 Mix together flour, salt, and baking powder. 

Cut in margarine with fork until mixture resembles small peas. 

Stir in milk.

Then dump misture on well-floured surface. 

Knead a few times.

Then roll out into 12" x 8" rectangle using a floured rolling pin. 

Spread with soft margarine.

Sprinkle cinnamon and sugar (mixed together) over rectangle. 

Start to roll from long side into log.  Cut into one-inch slices. 

Place slices on cookie sheet.  Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes.

My mom has always made these amazing cinnamon rolls. She has made these ever since I can remember, so at least nineteen years. They are actually quite simple; however, they leave a "scar" on almost everyone that eats them.

The cinnamon rolls are basically made out of flour and cinnamon. They are probably one of the easiest breakfast meals to make, and it is all from scratch! There has never been a specific reason that they are made, but just because my mom wants to. No one else in my family makes them except for my mom, but anyone that wants to can because they are so simple.

When I was younger, I remember getting up in the morning, and my mom would be making them, and I would always want to help. Eventually, probably when I was about four years old, she got me my own miniature rolling pin so I could stand alongside of her and "help." I remember being so excited. As the years went on, and I grew older, she would ask me to make them myself (if she was making a big breakfast for company or something and was running out of time), and as years continued to pass, and I got out of the baking stage, I would just try and sneak into the kitchen and eat some of the dough before it was put into the oven, instead of actually making them.

This food is somewhat considered my mom's "signature" food, along with a couple others. All of my friends know about "Mrs. Reed's cinnamon rolls" and ask her to make them every time they are at my house. Sometimes I'll be walking out the door early in the morning to go somewhere (work, out on the boat, etc.) and she will say, "Do you have ten minutes? I can make you some cinnamon rolls real quick." This meal is nice because it can pretty much be eaten anywhere in any way. Sometimes, even though they are not warm, I like to eat the leftovers the day after.

These cinnamon rolls have definitely had an impact on me for sure. I know this recipe will continue on through my own family one day, now that I have it written down because my mom just makes it from memory. I believe it is important for there to be home cooked meals in a household, and even though this is not a big meal, I still think it is a way that shows that my mom cares, and this is just one act of her thoughtfulness. I do not love them just because they are delicious to eat, but also because every time I eat them, they always bring back memories of when I was little and wanted to be in the kitchen with my mom, and the times we would share. I think, on top of sharing a great recipe with someone, making a memory because of it is even more special!
