Lemon Meringue Pie

Lemon meringue pie is a homemade specialty that has been in my family for a long time. My grandmother always makes it for a special occasion like someone's birthday or on holidays when everyone gets together.

This pie means a lot to me because I have had it on every birthday since I was five. It is a tradition that only I receive for my birthday. My grandmother makes a special dessert for all the cousins in the family. The cousins get to choose what they want and what they want on it. It doesn't matter what it is--she will usually make it no matter what.

My grandmother is always busy in her house making these little treats for the kids. If you were to walk in there just at random, you would usually see her working hard at making food. She tries teaching her daughters how to make some things, but when they do they're never as good as hers.

My mom tried making lemon meringue pie once. My grandmother taught her so she could make it for me on my birthday. My mom put all the ingredients in right and it all in the oven. When she took it out, it was all burnt. She put it in ten minutes over what she was supposed to because she thought it was twenty minutes instead of ten.

This pie means a lot to me because I know when I stop getting the pie it will be that my grandmother will be gone because she's "not going to stop until the day she dies," as she would say. Cooking is her life, and she loves doing it. The only other person I have seen who loves to cook is my sister, and she learned everything from my grandmother. My grandmother even bought her all the cookware just so she can have someone take after her.
