Spaghetti
Evan Garrett Austin
When I was four, my parents got divorced. My dad and I always ate supper together when I was younger, and spaghetti has always been my favorite. It was one of the few things my dad cooked inside the house.
So as I got older, and was home less and less, he decided he would only cook it if I was going to be home to eat when it was ready. He used food to give us that time we had been missing so we could catch up and talk about what was going on in our lives.
My dad has pretty much always been my best friend since he and my mom split up. I really enjoyed just sitting down and talking to him over a steaming plate of my favorite dish. We'd talk about what he was doing at work, and I'd pretend I understood; then, we'd talk about what I was doing at school, and he'd pretend he understood.
Spaghetti night will be a memory I'll have of him for the rest of my life.
