Chili Cheese Fun Dip
Ericka Charles
When I ran track back in high school, my track coach would host team dinners at his house. The team dinners always occurred on the night before a championship track meet such as Conference, Regionals, and States. As usual, a runner needs to load up on carbohydrates the night before a track meet. My coach would prepare lasagna, spaghetti, and baked ziti. It was up to my teammates and me to bring extra items to contribute to the dinner. I figured that the majority of my teammates would bring a bag of salad, salad dressing, and paper utensils. Instead, I decided to bring something different like chips and dip.
After track practice, I reminded my mother about the team dinner at my coach's house. I told her that I wanted to bring chips and dip. That was when my mother came up with a good idea on the type of dip for me to bring. She decided to create her own dip instead of buying one at the store. In her head, she came up with the name "Chili Cheese Fun Dip."
Before we went home, my mother sent me inside the store to purchase the items that are included in the ingredients for making the dip. I picked up the ingredients, paid for them, and went home. While I was busy completing my homework, my mother was busy in the kitchen preparing the dip. The smell of the ground beef and the cheese was constantly running through my nose. I wanted to have just one good taste of the dip, but it was not done yet.
After the preparation was complete, my mom and I took a couple of Tortilla chips and dipped them in the dip and ate it. The dip tasted wonderful. My mom did a great job of preparing the dip. I had no idea that she knew how to create her own dip. My mom put the dip inside a big container and we were out the door to go across town to the team dinner.
While my coach was busy in the kitchen preparing the pasta, my teammates and I were sitting in the living room watching television. We were all starving and we were wondering when the food was going to be done. To kill hungry worms, we tasted my mother's Chili Cheese Fun Dip with the Tostitos tortilla chips. Everybody enjoyed the dip, including my coach. He tried some of the dip while he was taking a break from cooking.
All of them were anxious to know where exactly the dip came from. I told them that my mother created the dip. They gave my mom good compliments on the dip and even asked for the recipe. I told them that the recipe was a secret and I was not allowed to tell. They were a little bit disappointed, but they still enjoyed the dip anyway. Finally, dinner was ready. As we served ourselves and ate the food, some of my teammates could not stop talking about my mother's famous chili cheese fun dip.
At every team dinner, I would always bring my mother's Chili Cheese Fun Dip, and my teammates and I would enjoy it with tortilla chips. On my mother's birthday in JUne 2008, there was a small party for her at her job during the lunch break. Not only was there some food and a cake, but my mother's dip was included in the party as well. Basically, the dip is enjoyed with some of her co-workers, too, besides with my teammates at team dinners.
