Pirate Palate - Nana's Chili - Daphene Winds

Pirate PalateNana's Chili

Daphene Winds

There's nothing like a nice home cooked meal, especially with a grandmother's touch, to satisfy the stomach. When it comes to my grandmother's chili, there's nothing else I would rather have.

Nana, as we call her, makes the best most amazing chili that I've tasted thus far. She loved whipping up fresh batch the family, which consisted of me and four brothers. She would fix a huge pot of chili with a side pot of white rice. I preferred the rice with mine, but my youngest brother didn't favor the chili and rice combo, so he just ate his chili plain.

Now that my grandmother is getting older, she's not able to fix it as often as she used to. When she does manage to get on her feet and make a pot, I make sure that I'm home to get me a plate.

The recipe isn't too difficult, but it's not simple either. Growing up with all boys was always so challenging when it came to food. I always had to hide this and hide that, but when it came to my chili I made sure nobody touched a grain of rice on my plate. This dish brought my family closer and holds many memories that I cherish. My grandmother always favored the neck bones most out of her soon to be traditional dish.
