Pirate Palate - Cream of Chicken - Chasity Darrough

Pirate PalateCream of Chicken

Chasity Darrough

It was in October 2004, and two of my little sisters, Patrice and Pereshes, were sent to the store to get two cans of Campbell's Home-style Chicken Soup. Instead of that, they brought home two cans of Campbell's Cream of Chicken Herb. My mother, who was extremely upset, saved the cans and sent them to the store yet again to get what they were sent to get originally.

Two weeks later, my second oldest sister, Kimberly (Kim), decided to cook and found the cream of chicken in the cabinet. She went to the store, bought a pack of chicken breast, and decided to follow the recipe on the back of the can. Her end result was a success. However, it did not have a signature on it saying that it was truly home-style instead of cookbook-born.

A few months passed, and the meal was brought up in one of the many family conversations. My youngest sister, Chyanne, made a comment that Kim did not cook the meal to her fullest potential and that Clairese, the oldest sister, should give it a try. She gladly took Chyanne up on her offer, and the entire immediate family went to my mother's house to prepare the meal because it has the biggest and most modern kitchen.

Within three hours of the conversation, Clairese undeniably, followed the recipe and added a few touches that signified her. I, along with my mom and all of my siblings sat down and enjoyed the meal like a family and complemented her on the job.
