Chocolate Fudge
& Cheese Straws
Bryan Ward
My grandmother and I used to always make food whenever I went to visit her, and my fondest memory is the time we made chocolate fudge and cheese straws. My grandmother loved to bake and cook many things, and many times, I would go cook with her. My favorite food was cheese straws and fudge because we always made them around Christmas and fixed them for friends and family for Christmas presents.
It was hard work to make cheese straws and fudge because the cheese straws had to be made and then forced through the cheese slicer. My grandmother had trouble forcing the cheese through, so I had to do it for her. I still enjoyed baking with my grandmother later in life because I enjoyed spending time with her and helping her in the kitchen.
The chocolate fudge was my favorite to eat when I was young, but now I appreciate the cheese straws, too. Cheese straws can have a spicy hot flavor, but my grandmother's are rather mild, which some people, including me, prefer. Cheese straws and fudge are a good gift around the holidays for children and adults. I will always remember baking with my grandmother. It is one of my favorite memories, and I will learn how to bake cheese straws and fudge myself one day.
