We are a social group, with an common interest of going to renaissance faires and pirate themed events in garb. We do not focus on the historically accurate pirate, but more of the hollywood stereotype pirate, with some fantasy thrown in as well. The main reason for this is more for comfort costuming-wise than anything else.
Our crew's storyline is an interesting one. During a visit to a village in England, the captain of the Inferno, Morick Towain, heard that the village was being terrorized by a minotaur. On one of his prior voyages, he came across a fae scroll that could banish a mythological creature. Unfortunately when Morick used this scroll, the minotaur cursed him causing him to change into a minotaur on the day of the full moon. He could initially not control himself during this change, but eventually learned to control things when the change happened and accepted this situation. Several years later, he came across a pendant that cought his eye....one that had a piece of cursed Aztec gold on it. Not knowing it was cursed, he purchased it and got affected by the curse. Morick found a way to alter the curses, giving him the ability to change into the minotaur form (by the use of taking off a pendant) at will and not turn into a skeleton. In exchange however, neither he or his crew are no longer able to wear any form of upper body wear. There would be a special pendant that could also be worn by his crew members to allow them to wear a shirt under specific circumstances.
The minimum amount of costuming we require for any crew member is some form of leggings [ex. wrap pants, tights, breeches], and footwear. All male crew members should go barechested (because of the above storyline), but if they don't want to do this, we'll get them a (cheap) pendant that they can wear so that they can wear a shirt.
Some of our events include going to renaissance faires, going to movie nights to see pirate themed films (or any other film that catches our attention), geocache hunts (modern day treasure hunting using GPS units), camping trips (some more for the gay crew members, and less for the straight ones.)
Our crew members are also encouraged to participate in events based on other time periods, including going 2000 years back in time and becoming gladiators with a re-enactment group out of Austin, or even creating mythological creature characters to be incorporated into the crew's storyline.
