LOTR Sightings
LOTR is a very popular and well loved, as I'm sure you know. Therefore, it is not shocking that many people reference it in what they do. It could be as simple as someone having a conversation with someone else and saying something like, "I went on a date last Wednesday, and I swear, she had hobbit feet!" But sometimes people insert references into their profession such as the comics below. If you notice ANYTHING LOTR related that is not from LOTR itself or something directly about LOTR, email it to me! If it is a picture, please send it to me, or send me a link to it. If it is found on a different website, please give me a link! Be sure to leave a name so that I can give you credit for sending it in. Thanks!

A "Fox Trot" comic strip has the mom (I don't know their names) doing a "virtual makeover" of the dad.  She shows the picture to him; he says he doesn't see any difference.  She says, "That's Viggo Mortensen, you numbskull!" ~RaggedyAnndy

On a crossword puzzle, #31 across, 3 letters "Tolkien's Talking Tree".  Hmm....I wonder what that could be?  And #41 down, 7 letters, "Lord of the Rings" character.  The answer was "Strider."  I was ashamed that I couldn't figure it out right away. *tear* ~RaggedyAnndy

and is fixing the piano for Joan.  She says "You can bring people back
from the dead...just use your powers and fix it."  he replies with "If

Both of these are from Stephen King books. In The Stand, a woman is a spy, and she compares her situation to that of Frodo when the eye of Sauron is searching for him. She thinks that she is close to being found out. In Firestarter, an agent named Jon Rainbird is described as 'a troll, an orc, a balrog of a man'. ~BoBi

On an episode of "Charmed" the sisters are helping a wizard who wants the evil Book of Shadows called The Grimoire. The wizard can create illusions, and at one point he makes an illusion of himself and leaves. When Piper realizes this, she says: "I can't believe we let that slimy Lord of the Rings wannabe use us!" and blows him up. ~Christina

In the movie Shrek 2, there is a parody scene in which Shrek and Fiona are married. Men are shown forging their wedding ring, and then Donkey begins to take it over to them. He drops it and it flies through the air, "jumping" (the same way it did to Frodo in FOTR) onto Fiona's finger. Fiery letters then show up on the ring that say "I love you".

On the UK Disney Cannel Show
Bus Life, the character Eddy refers his blanket that he's had since childhood as "My Preciousssssssss" and acts Gollum-like. Then another character, I think Sally, steals it and quotes, "Now it's my Preciousssssssss" in an aside. ~Elf Princess

In
Scrubs, Dr Elliot calls one patient's spouse a hobbit, and says she watched The Lord of the Rings last night. I can't completely remember but I feel she says she found Frodo attractive. ~Elf Princess

While on holiday to Barcelona last week, I had two Lord of the Rings experiences. When I was in London. there was TTT Currency Exchange where I grinned to myself and said
The Two Towers to my sister. When we arrived at Barcelona, I looked at the other airlines and to my extreme joy and resulting in me jumping up and down happily, there was a Gandalf Airlines. I would have taken a picture, but I lost my camera and by the end of the holidays I had no film. ~Elf Princess

In an episode of FRIENDS, Ross & Chandler have a college friend called Gandalf the Party Wizard
~ Pippin Crazee

my pastor made a reference to LOTR one sunday, saying that Frodo's journey to Mordor is like our walk w/ God.  We are only told the step ahead of us, just like Frodo only knew he was going to Mordor, but didn't know how it would happen and how he would get there.
~Seth

And Joanna(Nicole kidman) & Bobbi (Bette Middler{don't know if that's spelled rite...}) are wondering what has happened to their gay friend because he won't return their phone calls. so, they go over to his house to talk to him. In his driveway they find his "favorite shirt". they follow a trail of clothes into a garbage an where it is full of "flamboyant" clothes. Joanna says "these are his favorite clothes, why is he throwing them away like this?" They dig into the clothes pile and pull out a framed picture of Orlando Bloom.Joanna gasps and says,"He loved this." then bobbi pulls out a shirt with Viggo Mortenson's face on it and gasps "Oh no! it's Viggo!"

In Shrek 2, when Shrek (in human form) is going to 'rescue' Princess Fiona from Prince Charming and the Fairy Godmother, Donkey (in stallion form) runs up to him and Shrek swings on him like Legolas did in TTT.

In the book Mad Maudlin by Mercedes Lackey, it says, "Kind of like calling on Elbereth Gilthoniel, except she'd turn into Shelob if you called her for no good and urgent reason..."
Later in the novel, it also says, "Jeanette stared at her.  Riddles?  Next she'll be asking me, 'what has it got in it's pocketses?'"

On an ER episode there is a lady who was working in the psych ward and there was a person speaking Clingon and she said they should get a translator (jokingly) but then the guy she was talking to said that "Thanks to Professor Tolkien we have a full time Elvish one at the other site." yeah, it was beautiful...
