The Took Family Line

They say there's something odd
In the ol' Took blood.
There's something unhobbitlike
In our ways.
We can't always be idle,
Smoking our pipes.
We get into spots of trouble
When the timing is right.
We don't look for adventure,
It seems to somehow find us:
Like Belladonna's son,
Esmeralda's and Paladin Took's.
I wanted to know the name
Of all the stars.
Bilbo Baggins journeyed far,
Merry got lost on the way to the bar.*


*This is of course a jibe towards his cousin, Meriadoc Brandybuck. It is believed that the reason for saying this was because Merry was his worst critic and constantly looked over Pippin's shoulder when he was writing. This annoyed Pip to no end.
