This odd and unsettling film features Maurice Godin in the lead role as Norman, a peeper and would-be writer who becomes obsessed with a singer whom he believes was murdered. Director Patricia Rozema describes this 1990 work as a "Russian doll of a film" because it toys with so many different story telling genres: murder mystery, urban comedy, romance...and ultimately culminating in a bleak, fairytale-like ending. Maurice brings incredible depth to his portrayal of the gentle yet obsessive young writer whose interest in the reculsive singer (beautifully played by Kate Nelligan) leads to tragedy.
