| Selecting IT as a career was an exciting choice for me. When people as me, "What do you do" and I reply: "I'm in IT!" People look, nod and don't ask further questions. I wonder why they stop at that, my friend told me that all they know is IT stands for Information Technology and that means computers. But IT is so much more than the visualization of a worker sitting in front of a computer typing away for 7.5 hours a day. It's about projects, and looking for a way technology can aid in achieving desired results. According to Wikipedia, IT is defined: "The term information technology has ballooned to encompass many aspects of computing and technology, and the term is more recognizable than ever before. The information technology umbrella can be quite large, covering many fields. IT professionals perform a variety of duties that range from installing applications to designing complex computer networks and information databases...IT is a general term that describes any technology that helps to product, manipulate, store, communicate, and/or disseminate information." So, ask me again what do I do for a living? "I do computer stuff." IT is a fascinating world of technology meeting business needs. It's ever changing and for someone who loves to learn and challenge themselves everyday, this is the field for you. You will never feel restricted, as there are many specializations such as Business Analyst, Quality Assurance Analyst, Web Programmer, Database Programmer and much more. It's a wonderful world out there! |
