"Scoot"

Scoot, what else should you call a cheeky little bat who scootles around like she has a little motor attatched to her? Scoot's story is slightly amusing, so I'm going to tell you anyway...

It started on monday (16th July if you must know) when I decided I needed a bat detector, as I'd heard the scrabbling of (yet another) bat on the loft hatch, so I ordered one from the great people at Stag Electronics, which duly arrived on tuesday morning. I had gone into the loft on monday night to see if I could find the bat that was loose up there, but with no luck.

On tuesday, armed with my nice new heterodyne BatBox III detector, I ventured up into the loft again, just to check it out and have a listen to the bats who hang out in the roof apex during the day, seperated from "our" part of the loft by some hardboard panels. I was quite happily listening to the chirps, slaps and clicks of the bats above me when I heard a *scuttlescuttle.....SPLAT* behind me...

I turned around and looked down through the loft hatch to see a cheekly little bat had sneaked up behind me and then (dived? dropped?) through the loft hatch to the floor below!

I went down, picked her up and dusted her off, then decided to take a quick few photos before releasing her again, but Scoot decided she liked the Bat detector and scrambled all over it (sent those pics to Stag Electronics, I thought they might like the publicity shots) you can almost read the headlines: "9 out of 10 bats prefer STAG bat detectors!" *hehe*

So, here's Scoot:

images with a blue border or which change your mouse pointer when you hover the mouse over them are clickable to take you to a larger version of the image.

"help let me out!"

Scoot don't like smooth plastic boxes...

9 out of 10 bats prefer STAG bat detectors! ;o)

Scoot likes people too...

Smile for the close-up!

Scoot after release, Scooting up the wall!

Scooting!

up, up and away!
